Bryant and Florence natives selected for Golf Hall of Fame

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (News Release) — The South Dakota High School Golf Coaches Association have announced four selections for their Hall of Fame Class of 2021, John Brown Jr, Clark “Cork” Gusso, Bud Postma and John Knox.

John Brown Jr was born in Bryant, SD. He graduated in 1978 from
Hamlin HS in Hayti, SD. He attended SDSU graduating in 1983 and with his Masters in 1984. Brown began teaching at Clark HS in 1985 and coached golf, basketball, volleyball, junior high track, and American Legion baseball. Brown has spent his entire career teaching and coaching in Clark for thirty-five years. John is married to his wife Robin and they have two boys Michael and Derek.

Clark “Cork” Gusso was born in Florence, SD and graduated from high school in 1975. He graduated from Black Hills State University in 1980. Gusso has spent 40 years coaching in SD, 4 years at Timber Lake and the rest at Belle Fourche. He is a previous SDHSCA Coach of the year and won a State Championship with the Girls in 2018. Clark is married to his wife Valorie and they have four children: Kirby, Kaitlyn, Karlee, and Kemper.

John Knox was born April 1st, 1943 in Pierre, SD. He graduated in 1961 from Onida HS. He attended Huron College graduating in 1966. Knox began teaching in Blunt, SD from 1968-1972 and he served as Coordinator for the Jr Golf Program at Memorial Golf Course in Huron. Knox then taught and coached at Sully Buttes during the 1971-1972 school year. When he left to take a position with a CPA firm in Onida, John continued to volunteer as golf coach through 1975. In 1978 he then became the Business manager at Ford and in 2000 became the Senior State Auditor for the State of South Dakota through 2008. During this time, John earned his Golf Teaching Certificate from the United States Golf Teaching Federation and he was still involved with teaching and volunteering his services. Knox was then hired as Head Boys & Girls Golf Coach at Pierre’s T.F. Riggs High School in 2009 and stayed until retiring in 2018. John continues to work part-time at Hillsview GC in Pierre. John is married to his wife Linda and they one daughter Kayne Kraemer. Give a big round of applause to our 2021 South Dakota High School Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame Inductee, John Knox.

Bud Postma was born 1962 in Rock Valley, IA. He graduated in 1981 from Central Lyon in Rock Rapids, IA. He wrestled for SDSU graduating in 1986 and from SDSU with his Masters in 2003. Postma has spent his entire career teaching, coaching, and Athletic Director at Madison HS from 1986-2018. Bud is married to his wife Kelly. They have three girls, Brooke, Brittany, Brianna and they have seven grandchildren.

The four will be honored during the South Dakota State Golf Tournaments on June 8th.
