Brookings fire chief facing DUI charge retires

Brookings, S.D.–The fire chief in Brookings has retired after 23 years of service.

Darrell Hartmann announced his retirement less than a month after being arrested for drunken driving.

Hartmann was pulled over the night of March 19th, given a field sobriety test and arrested.

He was released on bond the following morning. He has a court date set for April 26th.

Deputy Fire Chief Pete Bolzer will serve as Interim Fire Chief.
