WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown High School was placed under lockdown this (Monday) morning.

A message sent out by the school district read:

“Watertown High School received an unconfirmed threat via email. In an abundance of caution, the district is locked down. Watertown PD is on the scene, and the buildings are secure. We will update you when we have further information. At this point, please do not come to the school. Thank you.”

A subsequent email read:

“Thanks to the quick work of the Watertown PD, we have traced the source of the email threat, and it was NOT credible. This was made by a student in an attempt to get out of school. We will be going off lockdown at K-8 schools immediately, and the high school will be off lockdown shortly. At no time were any students in any danger this morning. Thank you for your patience as we deal with this situation.”
