WATERTOWN, S.D.—Watertown police have confirmed they are investigating a death in the city, and although they’ve stopped short of calling it a homicide, they say foul play is, “not being ruled out.”

Police Captain Steve Rehorst says officers were dispatched to a residence in the 300-block of North Broadway to conduct a welfare check on a person a little after six o’clock Wednesday night.

When they got there, they discovered the body of a deceased adult female inside the residence.

Investigators wearing haz-mat suits could be later seen entering and exiting the residence.

Rehorst called it an, “active crime scene,” and that Watertown police are being assisted by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

Anyone with information on the woman’s death is asked to contact Watertown police at 605-882-6210.
