WATERTOWN, S.D.–A missing woman’s body was found this week in the Watertown area.
Details are limited at this time, but Tony Mangan, a spokesman for the South Dakota Attorney General’s office tells KWAT News that the Department of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation with assistance from local authorities.
He says an autopsy was completed Wednesday, and no injuries were noted. Mangan tells KWAT News Director Mike Tanner, “it appears she died from hypothermia.”
Mangan says there are no concerns or threats to the general public.
He did not release the woman’s name.
Codington County Sheriff Brad Howell says the body was discovered Monday afternoon in a somewhat wooded area near Cloud 9. He confirms that foul play is not suspected. He says the woman was believed to be in her mid 30’s, but would not disclose her identity.
Mangan and Howell say the investigation continues.
