WATERTOWN, S.D.(KWAT)–A high-impact winter storm will make its presence felt across eastern South Dakota starting today.

National Weather Service forecaster Amy Parkin says it comes in two waves. Today, there’s a Winter Weather Advisory posted for the area….

The second, stronger wave happens tomorrow, when a Blizzard Warning goes into effect….

Watertown could see more than a foot of snow…

In parts of the region, snowfall amounts will be over 20 inches….

Parkin says it’s very likely there will be highway closures, school and business closures, and in her words, it’ll be best just to stay home.

The storm system is expected to push out of the region by Thursday afternoon.
