BBB & GBB: Young’s putback as time expires lifts Arrows past Huron; Poor second half shooting dooms Arrow boys

WATERTOWN, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) – A last-second putback by Jaida Young as time expired would send Watertown past Huron 51-49 in high school girls basketball Friday night at the Watertown Civic Arena.

Down 39-28 to begin the third quarter, Watertown would outscore the Tigers in the final frame 23-10. Young would lead the way with a 17 point performance on seven of nine shooting from the field, knocked down three three’s, and would steal the ball three times. Maddy Rohde added 16 points and made three of her seven shots from beyond the arc, Jade Lund and Kendall Paulson each would add six points.

The Arrow boys would have a hot start at Huron leading 16-9 at the end of one but Huron would outscore the purple and gold in the second quarter to lead 26-24. Huron would outshoot Watertown from the field in the second half, 57 percent to 26 percent en route to a 62-47 win for the Tigers.

Drew Norberg tally a double, double with 23 points and 11 boards on nine of 26 shooting from the field and five of 13 from three-point land, Devon Lewis added nine, Cole Holden and Reese Stark each contributed four points.

The Watertown Arrow boys (1-2) and girls (3-0) are off till December 30th when they have a split doubleheader against Aberdeen. Boys will travel to Aberdeen at 3 p.m. while the girls will be at home for a 7 p.m. tip. Coverage of both games can be found on 950 KWAT and GoWatertown.net.
