August weather statistics show Watertown was slightly warmer, wetter than average

ABERDEEN, S.D.–The Aberdeen office of the National Weather Service has compiled its monthly weather statistics for Watertown.

In August, Watertown’s average temperature was 70 degrees, or 1.5 degrees warmer than normal. The hottest day in August was 96 degrees on the 2nd. The coolest temperature was 50 degrees, recorded on the 8th and 26th.

Precipitation for August totaled 3.21 inches, or one third of an inch above normal. More than half of the monthly precipitation total (1.64 inches) fell on August 5th. Watertown saw measurable rainfall on six different days throughout the month. The normal amount is nine days.

Watertown saw scattered reports of wind damage in the city on August 5th, when a peak wind gust of 76 miles per hour was recorded.
