Arrows fall in opening round of AA tournament

BROOKINGS, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — The Watertown Arrows fell in the opening round of the Class AA Tournament Thursday night to the seven seeded Sioux Falls Roosevelt by a final of 3-2. Set scores 25-14, 24-26, 17-25, 25-20, 11-15.

At the serving line Olivia Corey would tally five aces and Karli Hanten would add two. On the attack, Emerson Smith would add 17 kills, Maggie Heesch with 16, and Jadyn Hoftiezer with 13. Defensively Anna Johnson and Hoftiezer would add 14 digs each.

In other action at the AA number one Sioux Falls O’Gorman survived a scare from the eight seed Harrisburg 3-2 (25-17, 19-25, 25-14, 25-27, 15-12), the four seed Sioux Falls Washington downed the five seed Aberdeen 3-1 (25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 25-23) and the three seed Huron bested the six seed Brandon Valley 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-21)

Number two seeded Watertown will now face the six seed Brandon Valley in the consolation semifinals today. Todd Enderson will have coverage at 2 p.m. on 950 KWAT and GoWatertown.net. The other consolation semifinal game will see Harrisburg take on Aberdeen Central at noon. The championship semifinals will see Sioux Falls O’Gorman face Sioux Falls Washington at 5 p.m. and Huron take on Sioux Falls Roosevelt at 7 p.m.
