SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- A 51-year-old man is in custody and has been charged with the stabbing death of a 25-year-old Sioux Falls resident.
Eleghba Ronzell Lipsey has been charged with two alternate counts of murder in the first and second degree, one count of manslaughter in the first degree and three alternate counts of aggravated assault.
The charges are related to a fatal stabbing that took place in central Sioux Falls on November 23.
The Sioux Falls Police Department was called just after 12:45 a.m. for a report of a stabbing in the 500 block of South Duluth Avenue.
According to Sioux Falls Public Information Officer Sam Clemens, an altercation took place among a couple of people and Lipsey allegedly took out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times.
The victim, who was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced deceased, was identified as a 25-year-old Sioux Falls resident Aidan Quick Bear.
Clemens said information provided by others is what led to the arrest warrant.
“There’s a couple of different people that had information that pointed to the defendant, gave descriptions and somebody recognized who he was. So, that really put him in the area,” said Clemens.
Lipsey was on parole at the time and was taken into custody for parole hold the night of the stabbing.
“So, he’s been in jail. We just didn’t have any charges relating to that… It was really a partnership that we have with parole, working with them that we were able to identify him, figure out he was on parole. They placed a detainer on him so we knew that he was in a place where he wouldn’t harm anybody else,” said Clemens.
The arrest warrant was filed Tuesday afternoon and the suspect was arrested on the charges around 6 p.m.
