WATERTOWN, S.D.–Another Watertown grocery store has been given the green light to sell beer and wine.

On Monday night, the city council approved HyVee’s application for a pair of licenses; a wine and cider license (on and off sale),  and a separate malt beverage and South Dakota farm wine license (on and off sale).

A few years ago, Target was denied a license to sell beer in Watertown as council members, at that time, weighed in on whether a separate entrance should be required for them to do so.

Councilman Mike Danforth, prior to Monday night’s vote on the Hy-Vee applications, asked what has changed since then.

City Finance Officer Kristen Bobzien…

Earlier this summer, the Watertown City Council held a special meeting where it approved an on and off-sale malt beverage and wine license for County Fair Foods. That license was approved on a 5-2 vote.

Hy-Vee’s licenses were approved unanimously.
