American Legion cancels baseball for 2020

WATERTOWN, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — It was a roller coaster weekend for legion baseball in the state of South Dakota.
On Saturday, South Dakota Legion baseball commissioners approved play for baseball in the state but with some conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, that ruling was overturned on Sunday by the American Legion National Organization who canceled legion action for 25 states, including South Dakota, that had not suspended their play for the 2020 season. The 2020 American Legion World Series and all 8 regional tournaments had already been canceled on April 7th
So what does that mean for baseball this summer in South Dakota? American Legion National Organization has shut down sponsorship and all involvement of play. If any organized baseball were to be played in the state, it would not be sponsored nor endorsed by the American Legion National Organization.
Could baseball still be played in South Dakota this summer? Stay tuned.
