9-man champions crowned today

VERMILLION, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — Three nine-man champions will be crowned today during the South Dakota High Shcool Activities Association Football Championships at the Dakotadome in Vermillion.

The 9B Championship will begin at 10 a.m. featuring the three seed Potter County facing the five seed Dell Rapids St. Mary.  The Battlers are 10-2 and got to the championship game by knocking off their rival and two-seed Faulkton 22-12.  The Cardinals upset the one-seed Avon 32-20 and come into the game with a record of 7-3.

Kickoff for the 9A game will be at 1 p.m. and feature the one seed Herried/Selby Area taking on the two seed Howard.  Both teams are perfect on the season, the Wolverines at 12-0 and the Tigers at 11-0.  Howard knocked off the three-seed Wall 21-17 to get to the championship game while Herreid/Selby Area defeated the four-seed De Smet 16-14 in the semifinals last week, as heard on New Country KS93.

The night session will see the eleven seed Canistota/Freeman face the nine seed Plette-Geddes.  The Pride at 7-4 are in the championship game after running the gambit in the playoffs, including a 24-20 win over the two-seed Parkston in the semifinals.  The Black Panthers are 9-2 and got to the ‘ship after escaping Timber Lake 23-20 last week.  Kick-off set for 7:30 p.m.
