School teacher becomes second South Dakotan to die from COVID-19

HURON, S.D.–The second South Dakotan to die from the COVID-19 virus was a school teacher in Huron.

Family members say 51 year-old Mari Hofer died of coronavirus Saturday in a Sioux Falls hospital.

She was a third grade teacher at James Valley Christian.

Hofer was one of several members of her extended family who tested positive for COVID-19.

One of the others is Republican State Representative Bob Glanzer of Huron, who remains hospitalized in Sioux Falls.

The first South Dakotan to die from the virus was a man in his 60’s from Pennington County who died at a hospital in Mitchell.

South Dakota has reported 129 positive cases of coronavirus as of Wednesday. Twelve of those people are hospitalized.
