GRAND FORKS, N.D.–As major airlines face a shortage of qualified pilots industry wide, officials from United Airlines are looking at ways to find the next wave of pilots…

Mike McCasky is managing director of flight training for United Airlines. He says United is entering into a partnership with University of North Dakota and the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Science to help build a new roster of pilots…

Under the new program a UND student would get their flight instructor degree… follow that with a pilot position with a secondary carrier for United and then, after reaching qualification standards, move on to a pilot position for United.

McCasky says the program will start in the fall semester at UND. United has a similar program in place at Metropolitan State University in Denver.
