Neighbors oppose demolishing Fargo apartment where crime occurred

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Nearly 2,000 people have signed an online petition to tear down the apartment building that was home to a pregnant woman kidnapped and later found slain.

But those who live in the building say tearing it down won’t erase the crime. Christopher Miranda says the effort would be better focused on putting up a memorial for Savanna Greywind (pictured) . Balloons, flowers and other items have been placed near the steps of the building in memory of Greywind.

Two people who lived in the building are charged with conspiracy to commit murder and kidnapping. Greywind’s body was found in the Red River.

Police believe Greywind was killed for her unborn child, who survived. Greywind’s boyfriend, Ashton Matheny, says he is the baby’s father and has been caring for her.
