The announcement came following Al-Abadi’s visit to Baghdad Operations Command on Thursday. The curfew has been in place in varying forms since 2004, BBC News says. Most recently, the curfew has been in place from midnight to 5 a.m. local time.

A government statement says the decision was made to “facilitate the movement of citizens.”
